    You knew this was coming
favorite story this year (of my own): I'm torn between When Day is Night Alone and Grey Crimson Skies. I'm so proud of both of those stories and I've had amazing comments on both. Comments that show people got what I was trying to say, and that's always fantastic. I honestly can't pick.

most popular story this year, in my opinion: When Day is Night Alone, by a long way.

most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion: I'm always surprised when anything I write gets more than a couple of comments. So, I have nothing here.

most fun story: It Might Be Instamatic Flu, the co-write with [info]mahoni The story was written in comments over a weekend and I remember sitting and just clapping with glee when each new part arrived in my in-box. It was an awesome time and I laughed so often.

sexiest story: Oh man, I don't think anything I write is sexy. 99% of my stories end at kissing and hand-holding. Hidden in Plain Sight was my attempt at a kink meme prompt and went over okay I guess.

"holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story:Well I wrote a lot of h/c this year, with an extra helping of hurt. Which personally is fine by me, my betas may not agree *g* Oh, wait! Mikey and Gerard as mer people was pretty out there.

story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: When Day is Night Alone and Standing On the Graves of Dreams, simply because of writing Panic/TYV. While I love them I've written much more MCR so each time I do write Panic/TYV I worry that I'm doing them a disservice. So those two stories made me look at all four of the guys and really think about what I was writing.

hardest story to write: Standing on the Grave of Dreams. I had a time limit, I was writing for a very good friend and having to lie to her about what I was writing. I had another looming deadline for another exchange. I was dealing with stuff in RL at the same time. My world building was collapsing around me, I was convinced I was writing the worst exchange story ever. I can never thank my betas enough for getting me through that.

biggest disappointment: Hidden in Plain Sight. It's okay I guess, but I wish I could get over myself and write actual sex once in a while.

biggest surprise: That I wrote something over 70k still makes me boggle.

most telling story: Grey Crimson Skies is telling if you know where to look.

overall: I think my pacing and plotting has improved and I've moved on from writing lots of short stuff to taking the time to let stories develop. Of course there's a handful of silly shorts in there and I'm not the best of writers by a long shot, but I can look back and be proud of what I wrote. That's a good thing.

ambitions for next year: My ambition was always to prove to myself I could write something long, and now that's gone I don't know. Maybe at least try to write sex, but that's something I've been trying to do for years and haven't managed yet. I'd like to join bandom big bang and not let my fears of my name being lost in the crowd stop me. I want to write in the When Day is Night Alone and Sound Tracking universes again. I want to write a long canon based Mikey/Frank story. I want to finish my bandom_au story as I've a big chunk of pre-school Bob fic that I love. I want to write Panic/TYV fic and at least try for stories with pairings different to Mikey/Frank and Gerard/Bob. I want people to get that Mikey/Frank/Pete is the best threesome eva! I want to flood the fandom with Ryan and Mikey as secret BFF fic, but that's a secret plot, so shush!

I've just totalled up my word count and it's over 236k, and that's without adding the co-writes because I have no idea how much I wrote for those. Maybe I should aim for 250k total next year, I'm sure you'll all dying for a 100k plus h/c epic featuring lots of Mikey and Ryan \o/

    riting iz hard
I can remember -- albeit vaguely, but still! -- the days when I could just sit down and write, and it didn't feel like pulling teeth to get every word down.

Now I'm easily distracted, pulled away, and I really hate it. I have the story all in my head, I just can't seem to settle to get it out. ARGH.

    The Measure of a Man, 1/1, R, JA/JP (RPS)
Title: The Measure of a Man
    Author: [info]arliss
    Pairing: nominally Jared/Jensen
    Rating: R, for mature themes
    Words: ~1300
Warnings: A/u, carries on forward from my story, A Changed Man. Deals with the idea of extreme body modification (castration).
Notes: I'm posting this for Arliss, as she has some concerns about the subject matter scaring (and scarring) the non-fannish people on her flist. She sent this to me yesterday, after first sending me some of the most incredible feedback I've ever been privileged to receive on a story. I loved where she took Jensen's character, and then encouraged her to post it, or to allow me to post it for her. Arliss, thank you :) Again, this isn't my story, I'm posting it for someone else. Don't credit me for writing it :) Thanks!

No One Else Can Feel It For You
    1. I haven't really had the time or opportunity to peruse through the [info]yuletide archive, but I got a lovely 10 Inch Hero story that made me very happy: It's Just Like Ben Folds (ft. Regina Spektor) Said

    2. [info]trishabooms has been sekritly working on an AKB 'verse story for MONTHS now, a sequel to continuation of her story Horse. I've had the very pleasurable privilege of reading it as she wrote it and now she's finally opened it up for the world. It's Brian Austin Green/Cate Blanchett and it is...well, I was going to say PURE GLEE, but that's a tough characterization for anything as dystopic as AKB. But it is a phenomenal, fully realized, awesome angst-fest of a story and I'm so glad that it's finally out in the world so you all can read it, too. Horse 2. Go. Read. Lavish love.

awright, I know it exists, I just don't know where
WWE/RPS fanfic. Specifically, I want Matt Hardy/Jeff Hardy or Jeff Hardy/John Morrison. Or, y'know, Matt/Jeff/John. I'm good with threesomes ;)

I know it's out there somewhere. Sesame Street slash exists, for heaven's sake. And Care Bears. THERE HAS TO BE WWE SLASH SOMEWHERE. Someone please tell me where to find it? I'll be forever grateful. (And god, don't tell my kid. Yikes.)

it's the time of the season to Brooklyn
I have the Beastie Boys and the Zombies' lyrics mixing in my head right now. It's not a pretty picture.

I sent an email off to Rhonda a little while ago asking (begging) if she'll call in an antibiotic scrip for me, since to my not-inexperienced self, my cold's morphed from a cold into something resembling a sinus infection/bronchitis mix. Coughing, wheezing, sinus pain/pressure, low-grade fever that comes and goes, body aches. Yeah, we're having fun now! Bleh. It's the wheezing that's most troubling, because it takes so little to push my asthma over from controlled to out-of-control.

Meanwhile, my exchange story, which was barreling along nicely last night, has stalled out. It's hard to get motivated to write when you feel like roadkill, but I'm going to give it a shot here in a little bit.

I've seen a lot of folks on my flist tallying up their writing for the past year. Mine looks something like this:

SPN (mostly Sam/Dean, a couple of others): 11 stories, ~26,325 words
    RPS (Jared/Jensen): 6 stories, ~46,910 words

    Total: 17 stories, ~73,235 words

There were probably a few comment ficlets and some drabbles scattered in amongst there, but yeah. Not my most productive year, which is really kind of funny when you consider that I've been unemployed since August. I think I need to consider that, when I'm looking at goals for 2010.

I had some other stuff I wanted to ponder, but it's stuff best flocked and filtered, so I'll leave that for another time (hopefully a time also when my head doesn't feel like it's about to explode). Ugh.

Now to see what I can do with Sam and Dean.

Today I realised I nearly missed the join up deadline for [info]picfor1000, which would have been tragic because that challenge is important to me. This will be my 4th year, but more than that, I wrote my first bandom story for that challenge -- the comment fic I hid in comments before that doesn't count

I realised when I was pulling first lines together for the below meme. Of course, because I fail at tagging always, I realised I was missing fic, so had to go through my archives month by month.

Anyway, meme. Post the first line from a fic written each month I have to work up to the full end of year writing meme.

January -- Mikey lies back and stretches out his arms, moving his hands and tail-fluke in small lazy circles, just enough that he can float in place and stare up at the moon. Hang The Moon

    February --

    March --

April -- Brendon's life goes to hell one sunny September afternoon. When Day is Night Alone

May -- "We should turn back," Mikey says, his voice slightly muffled, like he's talking from under a layer of clothes. Dug in the Deep

June -- Usually, it's easy to live alongside Frank. Linchpin co-write with [info]sperrywink

July -- There's no actual evidence that Ryan's been taken, but Spencer knows -- he knows. The Keys to Unlock You

August -- Bob doesn't consider himself a violent guy. Four Times Bob Needed To Keep An Eye On His Band

    September --

October -- Bob's busy sorting his laundry when Frank opens the door and says, "I want to buy Mikey a gift." Grey Crimson Skies

November -- Frank hands his guitar to the nearest tech and gives a last triumphant wave to the audience before leaving the stage. Hidden in Plain Sight

December -- "You're needed in the pens," Rolof says, and leans against the fence, his elbows hooked over the orange-painted slats. Standing on the Grave of Dreams

I've had the best day today, grazing on leftovers and reading so much amazing fic, including working my way through more [info]drawn_to stories, and just, there's some amazing stuff over at that comm. I've also started one of the ficlets I promised so have been having glee over Ryan and Mikey being secret BFFs and being faily failboats. Also checking over an amazing story I'll be reccing for sure when I can.

In another post I was telling how James had bought me a new monitor plus a My Chem bag and purse for Christmas and [info]turloughishere asked to see. So they're behind the cut. Not the best pictures but enough to get the picture, plus something [info]sperrywink will recognise.

I Have No Precious Time To Spend
    [Loosely Filtered; LJ Only]

Heh. That sounds like it should be a tea.

So. I'm failing at posting and I'm failing at writing so I'm going to do one of those kick in the pan things that we do. If you can see this, this is your invitation to give me a prompt. With the usual caveats:

    1. Please make it a fandom/pairing I know/am interested in.

    2. Please make it something ficlet length; something I can accomplish in 500-1000 words would be ideal.

    3. Please understand if said prompt never happens as my ability to write these days is fickle, unreliable and capricious.

Obviously, inclusion on the filter doesn't mean you have to give a prompt. :)

    it's been a busyish day
Of the awesome: banging out over 2000 words on the [info]spn_j2_xmas exchange story.

Not so awesome: realizing you still need probably another five-to-six thousand to finish the story the way it should be done.

Also not so awesome was waking up sicker this morning than I was all last week. I was getting better, dammit, so what's up with that?

However, also in the 'awesome' category, is my kid. As I was crying over my flist last night, and my friends who've had deaths in their family, Matthew came up to me and said, "are you okay? Do you need a hug?" And listened to why I was crying, then hugged me again.

Now that I've swallowed 1093481034981 cold meds, I think I'll finish my orange juice and go to bed, so I can wake up rested and refreshed and ready to finish my exchange story ON TIME, dammit. :)
